Stunning Films Produced For Durrell Wildlife

Monday 14 May 2007, 04:22am

Spike has just finished filming and editing five short films for Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust which was founded by the world famous Gerald Durrell. The visually stunning films are being shown around the conservation centre to help visitors understand more about the animals they are seeing.

The end result was the culmination of a lot of hard work prior to the production but judging by the reaction they received it was all worth it.

“God you guys are so amazing – you really do rule. I was so proud to watch those films and simply can’t believe what a great job you’ve done and how hard you’ve worked in such a short time. They are SIMPLY THE BEST.”

They are shown on five technologically advanced all weather screens around the park and feature an array of footage from behind the scenes as well as messages from conservationists working to protect the animals in their native countries

Kelly Manuel, Marketing Manager for the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust said “We are constantly on the lookout for new ways to enhance the visitor experience at Durrell, and these new films promise to be a treat for anyone interested in wildlife and conservation.”

Spikes senior cameraman Tom Killick said: “Spending a week at Durrell to capture footage of the various animals and other activity that takes place was a fantastic experience.

“To be allowed the behind the scenes access and the time to film animals doing what they do naturally has been amazing. I hope that the incredible images we have captured and the stories we are telling help to put across the important reasons why Durrell is here.”

From this week visitors will be able to view the films at the visitor entrance, in the Dodo Café, at Tamarin Wood, the Cloud Forest Exhibit and the Long House.
