Rage Against The Christmas Number One!

We love the excitement surrounding the big Christmas number one debate that has caught the imagination of the nation.
A few disenfranchised face-bookers decided to say “NO” to Simon Cowell’s ownership of the number one singles slot this Christmas by launching a social marketing campaign to get the band “Rage Against the Machine” to number 1.
The Song “killing in the name of” was originally released 17 years ago and hasn’t been specifically re-launched for this event. It was simply a few guys wanting to make a social statement about our nation’s fixation with the X-factor.
The Rage Against the Machine’s facebook page now has over 750,000 members and was in the number one position earlier this week but with the Joe McElderry selling well the race to the finish is heating up.
For marketers though there are some lessons in understanding the power of facebook and social networking sites in bringing people together and what can be achieved with a good idea and a little rage within!
