Kings Life in Guernsey are believed to be the second oldest tennis club in the world forming in 1857 just one year after the first club started in Leamington Spa. This year it is celebrating its 150th anniversary and wanted to mark the occasion with a film charting the rich history of the club through the ages.
Spike were commissioned to create a film which had three key elements to it, first the history, then the club as it is now and lastly how the current four million pound redevelopment will transform it into a first class facility.
The challenge was to bring alive the distant past as although there are many letters and documents from the 1800’s they don’t work well on film.
Warren Mauger was the producer in charge of the film,
“This was a challenging project which involved us doing a fair amount of research and getting a clear understanding of the history of the club as well as creating a style and format that would sustain the viewer’s interest all in a short period of time. The club though has a colourful history and in more recent times has produced several world class sports men and women which is no mean feat from a small club on an island with a population of 60,000”
The film was well received and Managing Director of the Club Mark Shaw said
“I think you have done a first class job and I thank you for your patience with the many minor changes we have asked for. Well done.”
